WHAT IS BATIK?

Batik is the process of applying hot wax to fabric (we mainly use silk and cotton) which acts as a resist. We then hand paint the fabric with dyes and use this fabric in stunning costumes, amazing giant structures, beautiful flags and more!

Here at Cabasa we create all of our own fabric for costume to be used for Carnival and other outdoor events.

ABOUT THE COURSE

If you’re interested in textiles, carnival, costume, getting hands on or just learning a new skill, this is the course for you!

In this free (now online) course we’ll take you through the history of this amazing art form then get practical from designing, waxing and dyeing silk with our lovely in-house artists Lizzie and Lauren.

At the end of the course you’ll come away with a beautiful silk scarf and have the opportunity transfer your new skills onto our large-scale projects later down the line…or why not start your own project?
